With everybody wanting to look their best these days, many people are looking for the and most affordable options to help them improve their smile. For many of us, looking good is feeling good and can be a real boost to our confidence and self-esteem.
A healthy, vibrant smile is a big part of that.
When patients with crooked, chipped, or otherwise damaged teeth are looking for a solution, one possibility they may not always consider is dental implants. Surgically implanted in the gums below the jawline, implants provide a stable support for crowns, dentures, and bridges by fusing to the jawbone. This provides a stronger and more natural feeling then conventional dentures.
Types of Implants
Dental Implants can be grouped in to two broad categories based on the position of the implant relative to the jaw bone.
Endosteal implants:
Implanted directly into the jawbone, these implants provide lots of stability and strength for bridges and dentures. After the implant is placed and the surrounding tissues have healed, a second procedure is required to attach the post to which an artificial tooth can then be affixed. Implants may be grouped together for bridges or dentures, or stand-alone for single artificial teeth.
Subperiosteal implants:
These implants consist of a metal frame which is fitted into the jawbone just beneath the gums. As the gums heal around the frame, it is affixed to the jawbone. Posts which protrude from the gums can then be attached to dental prostheses. Subperiosteal dental implants are not widely available and were utilised more frequently in the early days of dental implant research.
Benefits
Many people across North America could benefit from the corrective nature of implants, allowing them to improve their smile and get rid of chipped or crooked teeth or replace missing teeth.
In fact, a recent study performed by the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons found that about two thirds of patients aged 35-44 have lost at least one of their permanent teeth, and the numbers in Canada are assumed to be similar. Causes include everything from accidents to gum disease, failed dental procedures, and tooth decay. By the age of 74, the same study suggests that up to ¼ of patients will have lost all of their natural teeth.
Additional benefits include:
- Made of high quality materials
- Easy to place and restore
- Long-lasting
- More natural looking & permanent solution than traditional dentures
- Very high success rate
- Faster process than ever before
Dental implants are highly recommended by many dental professionals as the best choice for replacing missing or damaged teeth in order to create a natural, healthy looking smile that will help you feel your best!
