Preventing dental problems is the surest way to a healthy smile. Regular cleanings with our dental hygienist and examinations with Dr. Currie can prevent gum disease and identify dental problems at an early stage. These visits are also a great opportunity to have the hygienist customize your home care regimen to achieve optimal oral health.

Did you know that gum disease is preventable? But when left untreated it can lead to tooth loss, as well as systemic complications such as worsening heart disease or diabetes. At Pearl Dental we make special effort to ensure that your regular check-up visits are always with the same hygienist to ensure continuity of care.

White Fillings

'White' fillings are by far the most common choice to restore tooth decay and reshape irregular teeth. Along with the esthetic benefits of white fillings, the bonding 'glue' which holds them in place offers structural benefits too.

Root Canal Therapy

Endodontic therapy (or root canal treatment) is ironically the most effective way to relieve pain in a tooth that may otherwise have to be removed. Root canal therapy is simply a procedure to save an infected tooth by cleaning, disinfecting and filling a compromised tooth. The procedure is generally painless through the use of a local anesthetic and most cases can be completed in just one visit.

Dental X-rays

An issue often raised at dental check-ups is the frequency and necessity of dental x-rays. All dentists in Ontario are guided by the ALARA principle in the use of dental x-rays. ALARA stands for 'As Low As Reasonably Achievable'. Essentially, radiographs are taken if there is a specific indication or on a routine screening basis if there are identified risk factors. At Pearl Dental we also use digital x-ray sensors which further minimizes radiation exposure
